music for mp4 playersMp3 vs Mp4 music players? Besides Ipod, other comparable brands?

I want to buy a music player but I don't know much about them. What's the difference between mp3 and mp4? I think I read that mp3's are being phased out? Wma's have to be converted to mp3/mp4? When I buy music it's always in mp3 format. I don't want an ipod because I don't want to deal with customer service at Apple. I think there are other brands that are just as good and cheaper. I may want to download movies for when I travel, so how many gigs are best? Thanks for any info/advice someone can give me.
Mp4 Players are worse quality than MP3 or AAC. MP4 playermusic for mp4 playerss are almost all fake and cheap. I'd get a Sansa, Zune, or Sony, or Cowon. iPod for sure. They all are from respectable brands. COWON goes up to 500 GB for 400 bucks.
I would avoid the ipod.. They are overrated, expensive and hard to service if you ever need a new battery etc.

If your looking for a basic player I would recommend either a sansa player:

or the ematic touch line:

They are both solid devices and yet also provide advance features. For example the ematic players often offer memory expansion as well as built in cameras, and the sansa players music for mp4 playershave a very good reputation as well as good music format support.

If you want to go to the higher end, something like the microsoft zune is a good choice:

The zune players are built like tanks yet fairly easy to service if needed, unlike apple gear.
Mp3 players are just sound files while Mp4 players can play music AND videos. So I would recommend you an M4 because you can play both music and videos on em, and if you're not interested in vids then just gen a Mp3 player, they're cheaper.
